Matthew Williamson Creates a Blooming Christmas Tree for V&A
Dec 6, 2004 to Jan 6, 2005

Fashion designer Matthew Williamson has designed a decadent Christmas tree that will decorate the V&A’s stunning Grand Entrance over Christmas 2004.

Over 1,000 pink velvet and chiffon roses will decorate the six-metre high tree. Each rose will be dusted in electric blue glitter. Among the flowers will be gold decorations covered with birds, dragonflies and butterflies.

Matthew Williamson said: "The V&A is an amazing museum and the collections have always been a great inspiration to me. I’m delighted to be designing the Christmas tree this year. Rather like the museum itself, I wanted the V&A Christmas tree to be decadent, exotic and unique, while retaining a very traditional element."

The V&A Christmas tree will be on display from 6 December 2004 until 6 January 2005. Entry to the V & A is free.
