Biography

Maria born 1969 is a self-taught designer, determined since early childhood to pursue her dream. At 14, she had produced her first bias-cut collection. After a short stint working in the city to earn sufficient money to start her own business, she sold her first collection in London.

Since then, Maria has sold to only the best stores around the world, with Liberty, Saks and Giorgio Beverly Hills amongst her clients. Having launched her own fashion house at London Fashion Week in 1994, she currently ships half of her output abroad, selling her signature styles - Thirties-style bias-cut, fishtail gowns in satins and chiffons - to chic stores around the world including Saks in New York, Giorgio in Beverly Hills and Victoire in Paris.

Her popularity soared when she designed what was labelled the most expensive dress in the world, displayed during London Fashion Week 2000. The black evening gown inspired by dew drops on a spider’s web, and encrusted with 2000 glittering gems is worth an estimated £2,500,000 Since 1994, Maria has been one of the leading young designers at London Fashion Week, gaining an increasing amount of international acclaim.

Grachvogel may have had no formal training, but her clothes are still popular with the stars. Contemporary yet timeless designs, Maria Grachvogel’s clothes are worn by discerning stars such as Cher, Anna Friel, Sadie Frost and Victoria Beckham, who took to the catwalk to model Maria’s clothes for London Fashion Week.
